KOPIENAS SKAPIS

Kopienas Skapis (known as Community fridge) shall become a symbol to save food and to stop it from becoming waste. Its existence is communal, sustainable, and valuing. The motivation to set up this non-commercial private food “trading point” follows the premise and belief that there is no overproduction of food but an unstable balance of food “owners”. It is an initiative committed to fighting food waste – starting from private households. It brings together food-saviors, who share not only their food but also their commitment to sustainable environmental and consumption goals. Instead of throwing unwanted or -needed food away, everyone is welcome to use it rather than waste it. Within this, Kopienas Skapis follows the motto: sharing is caring! Caring for people in a need of food, caring for a fair consumption relation, and caring for maintaining food as an available resource to people.  This fridge is open to everyone: take what you need and leave what you don’t. As a place for food sharing, it is free of any charge, non-commercial, independent, and free of advertising.

Kopienas Skapis opened for the public on December 19, 2019. Kopienas Skapis is now closed due to the spread of COVID-19 infection. It will be open again in April 2021.

Kopienas Skapis project came into realization thanks to and supported by Darbnīcu parks, Repair Cafe Riga.

The project Kopienas Skapis was financed with the support of European Commission’s European Solidarity Corps administered in Latvia by the Agency for International Programs for Youth. SUSPENDED COFFEE

Suspended coffee – buy yourself a cup of coffee or tea, and pay for someone else in advance! The Suspended coffee

tradition began in the Italian city of Naples. If someone had a particularly successful day, they ordered a “sospeso” or

two coffees at a cafe, but drank only one. The second coffee then remained for someone whose day was not that good, who forgot their wallet or the coffee simply could not be afforded at the moment.

How does it work? Take your coffee with you, but pay for two. Tell the bartender that the second drink is suspended coffee, and we will write it down on a sticky note that it is a coffee that you paid for in advance and then put it on the glass wall at the bar. Anyone can come to us and see what drinks have been paid for, choose one of the paid-for options and give it to the bartender. Enjoy your drink, someone already paid for it! Let the good vibes roll. #kkcpayitforward

SEXISM FREE NIGHT

Project Sexism Free Nights aim to reduce sexual violence and sexism in nightlife scenes by raising awareness among party-goers and promoting safer and more egalitarian nightlife environments.

Sexism is prejudice or discrimination based on a person’s sex or gender. It is linked to stereotypes and gender roles and includes the belief that one sex or gender is superior to another. In extreme cases, sexism may eventually lead to sexual harassment, rape, and other forms of sexual violence.

Kaņepes Kultūras centrs together with European partners launched a “Sexism Free Night”  project to promote a safer and more equal nightlife environment. The first part of the project is collecting data with a websurvey to better understand the reality of sexism and sexual violence in European nightlife environments. This study is funded by the European Union’s Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme (2014-2020) and is promoted Health and Community Foundation (ES); Faculty of Education and Psychology of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (PT); Clubcommission (DE); Kanepes Cultural Center (LV); European Network NEWNET and ReGeneration (RS).

Sexism Free Night project aims to reduce sexual violence and sexism in nightlife scenes by raising awareness among those who go out and by promoting safer and more equal nightlife environments for everyone. The main objectives of the project are to engage professionals working in nightlife and festival environments, and work on denormalization of sexism and prevention of sexual violence. Project also wants to raise awareness about the importance of bystanders, produce knowledge from collected data, and by working with professionals, build best practice guidelines for harm reduction specialists in nightlife environments.

REPAIR CAFE

The idea of Repair Cafe was born in 2009, when the first Repair cafe event in Amsterdam was organized by the initiative’s author Martine. She, same as the Repair Cafe Riga team, believes in strengthening the community through hands-on activities and sharing skills. Therefore, for more than 10 years now, Repair cafe has been gathering everyone interested around the world for educational events, where you can meet local experts, as well as find all the tools for learning new skills through repair! The Repair Cafe movement also tries to emphasize in general the importance of the desire to repair things and focus on more responsible consumption.

This is a community for developing Repair Cafe concepts in Riga and to gather people that want to teach and learn valuable skills. Repair café is a meeting in which people repair household electrical and mechanical devices, computers, bicycles, clothing, and other items. Repair Cafe Riga is by and for local residents. Maybe mention the names of the creators?
